Migraines- What are they?

Migraines cause severe head pain that may be accompanied by a myriad of other symptoms that can be disabling. Migraine symptoms may include the following:        Vomiting        Nausea        Tingling and tingling        Sensitivity to sound        Sensitivity to light        Difficulty speaking Migraines often are found to run in families and recent medical studies have identified certain genetic mechanisms. Migraines are suffered by individuals of all ages and are often not identified in young children. The length of a migraine attack can vary widely from person to person. Most migraines will last for at least four to five hours. If you are having a migraine attack that lasts for more than three days, you should visit your local emergency room. Migraines and the Phases Migraine attacks will typically follow four stages. A person can have a migraine that will skip one or more of the phases and each person is different. Suffering from a migraine that does not begin with a headache is possible and these types are known as acephalgic migraines. It is important to remember that migraine headaches can vary widely from person to person. Migraine and Headache There is a big difference between a headache and a migraine. A migraine attack can cause debilitating neurological symptoms. The head pain with a migraine is a throbbing feeling and is usually felt on one side of the head. The symptoms most commonly experienced are nausea and vomiting. Other symptoms that accompany migraines can vary from attack to attack. Different Types of Migraines Migraines are not a one-size-fits-all and can be triggered by different factors. Acupuncture Treats Pain Let's face it. Having pain from headaches and migraines are a nuisance. More than that, experiencing pain from headaches and migraines can be completely debilitating. Eye pain, head pain, auras, nausea with migraines and headaches, sound and light sensitivity, agitation, depression...all of these can strike someone suffering in pain from headaches and migraines. Eat regular meals at set times, daily. i.e. Eat between 7-8a everyday, not, 7a one morning and 9.30 the next morning. Our bodies crave structure. Move everyday. Exercise. Walk, swim, hike. Cut back on screen time. This cuts back on over stimulation and gives your eyes and mind a break. We all need down time everyday.
